The Good¢ents Board of Trustees met on May 19, 2022, and awarded 6 grants totaling $29,633.61.
All grants from the Good¢ents Foundation are awarded to nonprofit organizations within GVEA’s service area. Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees.

Good¢ents is funded by the generous members of Golden Valley Electric Association. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have funded grants totaling $1,381,425.77.
Here’s a summary of the recent grants:
ABC Preschool: 4,861.93 for the purchase of outdoor play equipment for their school year and indoor furniture for their classrooms. The newer equipment and furniture will be more durable, safer, long lasting and will require less maintenance. It will also provide an important way for kids to get much needed physical exercise during their school day. ABC Preschool is a nonprofit cooperative that has been successfully helping local families prepare for kindergarten for over 30 years.
Alaska Dog Mushers Association: $6,750 for information kiosks that will provide trail maps, safety information and trail use schedules for the 30+ miles of public use trails that the Dog Mushers Association maintains. These multi-use trails are located between Farmer’s Loop and Creamer’s Field and are used for biking, walking, hiking skiing, skijouring and more year round!
Alaska Songbird Institute: $4,915 to fund the purchase of two new computers, two tablets and a printer for their new staff positions. ASI’s core projects are located at Creamer’s Field, the beloved “backyard” of the Fairbanks community. Their flagship project is the Creamer’s Field Migration Station (known to most as CFMS or simply “the banding station.”) This spring marks the start of CFMS’ 31st field season! Over the years, scientists and volunteers have collected data on over 100,000 birds and educated a whole generation about Alaska’s birds, migration, and ecology.
Arctic Audubon Society: $1,500 to purchase signs for the trails in the Audubon Riedel Nature Reserve, located in the area of Esro, Amanita, Chena Hot Springs Road and Gilmore Trail. The Arctic Audubon Society is a volunteer, nonprofit organization that works to protect Alaskan ecosystems by encouraging research, education and management that contributes to the good stewardship of our natural heritage. The Audubon Riedel Nature Reserve started in 1984 with 160 acres and has grown to 320 acres.
Green Star of Alaska: $8,606.68 to cover the cost of recycling a backlog of batteries that were collected during the COVID-19 pandemic and moving expenses. Green Star of Alaska encourages and enables residents of Interior Alaska to reduce waste and increase recycling.
Nordic Ski Club of Fairbanks: $3,000 toward the cost of renting, transporting and setting up temporary waxing facilities at Birch Hill Recreation Area during the 2023 U.S. Junior National Cross-Country Ski Championships. Nordic Ski Club is dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of cross country skiing. Throughout their six month season, they organize a variety of recreational and competitive activities for skiers of all ages including group tours, youth programs, clinics, races and trail grooming.
