The Good¢ents Board of Trustees met on February 16, 2022 and awarded 6 grants totaling $21,150.
All grants from the Good¢ents Foundation are awarded to nonprofit organizations within GVEA’s service area. Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees.

Good¢ents is funded by the generous members of Golden Valley Electric Association. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have funded grants totaling $1,351,792.16.
Here’s a summary of the recent grants:
Access Alaska: $1,500 toward the purchase and installation of an on-demand hot water system to serve their Hub Scrub, a machine that disinfects donated medical equipment that is loaned out at no charge to seniors and people with disabilities. Access Alaska works to encourage and promote the total integration of people who experience a disability and elder Alaskans to live independently.
American Cancer Society of Alaska: $5,000 to support free programs and services for cancer patients in the Fairbanks area. The American Cancer Society of Alaska offers multiple programs, providing services such as transportation, advocacy, lodging and more at no charge to cancer patients and their families.
Fairbanks Youth Advocates: $650 to fund the purchase of a new printer for their emergency shelter operations, as well as a case of copy paper, ink refills and a printer station. Fairbanks Youth Advocates (The Door) provides stable, safe emergency shelter for at-risk youth and youth experiencing homelessness. They are available 24/7/365.
Friends of Hockey Club Fairbanks: $1,500 to support the 2022 Pacific District Girls Hockey Tournament that was hosted in Fairbanks March 3-6, 2022. The tournament included 28 teams (2 local) and 500+ athletes. Hockey Club Fairbanks is a volunteer run organization that offers recreational and competitive hockey opportunities to children ages 4 to 18 – there are currently over 600 players in the program.
Interior Alaska Cancer Association: $5,000 to fund the purchase of food and housing needs for those undergoing cancer treatment in Interior Alaska. The Interior Alaska Cancer Association was founded in 2002 with a mission to serve those being treated for cancer and provide assistance with basic needs like food, heat, rent and gasoline. They are a volunteer organization and 95% of all donations go directly to those in need.
North Star Dance Foundation: $7,500 towards the purchase of pipe and grid parts to mount theater lighting in their new state of the art performance space. This new theater will be unlike any in Fairbanks, allowing for a dynamic and immersive experience that can be customized based on performance needs. The North Star Ballet has provided Interior Alaskans with an outstanding program of dance education and presented performances of classical and modern dance for the past 42 years.
