In late August, the Good¢ents Board of Trustees reviewed 13 applications and awarded six grants totaling $38,100. Here is the breakdown of the awards:

  • Greater Fairbanks Community Hospital Foundation – $10,000 grant to be applied towards the purchase of a Tomosynthesis machine, which will be located at the FMH Imaging Center. Using 3D technology, this x-ray machine is the best and most advanced mammography technology currently available.
  • Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living – $10,000 grant will assist with the expenses tied to the installation of an ADA-approved lift, which will provide third-floor access.
  • North Star Imagination Library – $5,000 grant to assist with expenses tied to the monthly mailing of books to pre-school children throughout the Borough.
  • Senior Citizens of Interior Alaska – $5,000 grant will go towards the construction of a pavilion in their outdoor picnic area, which is located in Salcha.
  • Alaska Health Fair – $5,000 grant will go towards the purchase of customizable and reusable signage for upcoming health fairs throughout the Interior.
  • Moore Street Seniors – $3,100 matching grant will go towards upgrades to the residents’ parking area. With the installation of Intelligent Parking Lot Controllers (IPLCs), the residents will benefit from energy efficient vehicle plug-ins.

All money from the Good¢ents foundation is awarded locally to nonprofit organizations and individuals in need.

Applications are reviewed quarterly in February, May, August and November by a volunteer board of trustees. The next application deadline is October 31.  Applications and more information about the program can be found online at gvea.com/goodcents.

Good¢ents is funded by the members of Golden Valley Electric Association. Since the program began in 2011, GVEA members have granted nearly $366,000 to local nonprofits and individuals in need.
