6:40pm Update – During the past 12 hours, another 2,000 meters have had power restored. From the peak of 21,000 meters without power, the current estimate of meters still out is 4,000. As long as the weather cooperates, we anticipate this number to continue to decline.
In addition to the two MEA crews headed our way, we learned late this afternoon that an additional two contract crews are also driving up from Anchorage to assist. These crews will be put to work as soon as they hit town.
GVEA has cleared the IBEW union hall of all available qualified hands, plus several retired GVEA linemen have returned to assist with this outage.
While returning power to the largest number of meters has been the primary focus, crews are now working their way out from the substations. Much of this work is off the road system, so the work becomes much slower and more tedious.
Thanks again for your patience.
