Each year, GVEA awards eight (8) scholarships:

  • The first seven are awarded in the spring, which correlates to the timing of GVEA's Annual Members' Meeting.
    • This application period is typically open from November 1 through March 1, and forms will be available during that time period.
  • The eighth scholarship is for the Career & Technical Education Scholarship and is awarded in late summer.
    • This application period is typically open from April 1 through July 31, and forms will be available during that time period.

To be eligible for any GVEA scholarship, the applicant (or member of the applicant's immediate family) must be a member of Golden Valley Electric Association and receive electric power from GVEA at his/her principal residence.

The application window for the Career & Technical Education Scholarship is now closed. The Scholarship Committee met in August 2019 and selected the scholarship recipient via a "blind-copy" process. The scholarship recipient has been notified; her name is posted below.

APPLICATION AND REFERENCE FORMS 

Application window for the first seven of eight scholarships is now open!

Deadline to submit an application packet is Friday, Feb 28, 2020.

Note: The application and reference forms can be completed online.  However, they must be printed and submitted (i.e. hand-delivered or postmarked) together with other required paperwork as a complete, hard-copy package.

GVEA awards eight (8) scholarships each year. The first seven are awarded each spring, and the eighth is awarded in August. 

The following information details the four different categories of scholarships GVEA offers. (See the list of the most-current scholarship recipients below.)

  • Academic Degree Scholarship ($15,000) ... 1 Scholarship Awarded (each spring)

This is a four-year scholarship and is only awarded to one student each year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study or distance education program within GVEA's service area. Applicant must be pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree at any University of Alaska campus and have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5. 

  • Academic Scholarship ($2,500) ... 3 Scholarships Awarded (each spring)

This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year. Applicant must be a graduating senior from a high school, correspondence study or distance education program within GVEA's service area. Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 required.  Applicant must be pursuing a four-year bachelor's degree at an accredited school.  

  • Continuing Education Scholarship ($2,000) ... 3 Scholarships Awarded (each spring)

This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to three students per year. Current year graduating high school seniors are not eligible for this scholarship. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading toward a bachelor's or master's degree. Applicant must have completed 12 or more credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.  

  • Career & Technical Education Scholarship ($2,500) ... 1 Scholarship Awarded (each August)

This is a nonrenewable scholarship awarded to one student per year. Applicant must be enrolled or accepted as a part-time (at least 6 credit hours per semester or 4 hours per quarter) or full-time student at an accredited school in a program leading towards a recognized license, certificate or an Associate degree (2 years or less). Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the most recent education institution attended (high school or post-secondary).
